1st – 6th Grade Advent Season 2008
Topics of Investigation

· FSC Children’s Banners for Faith / Hope / Love / Joy

o Every week we will explore the meaning of the word and the meaning for us. The children can help decorate a banner which will hang in the courtyard.

· Examining other beginning / birth stories

o We will take a look at various leaders (religious and world) and their beginning / birth stories and see how they might compare to our own experience.

o We might act the story out or use our map skills.

o The biographies are from: Buddha; Dalai Lama; Barack Obama; Jesus Christ; Martin Luther; Rev. Matthew Cockrum; Muhammad; Bahau’u’llah; Athena and Mother Teresa.

· Beginning story of our classroom – make a quilt

o All children are encouraged to make a square with a self-portrait and the approximate date they started to attend FSC. The collection is the classroom quilt.

· Family Story ‘movie’ booklet

o All children can document the beginning of their family. It might be when they were born into the family or adopted or accepted as a friend.

· FSC Galaxy – Beginning

o We can explore the beginning of a star and also make a FSC galaxy where every child can decorate a star to be part of the FSC star community.

· Advent Crafts

o The children will have an opportunity to make various Advent / Christmas crafts to explore the holy day of Jesus’s birth/beginning.
